We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the Public Information Officer (PIO) position.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the technical, administrative, and supervisory aspects of the production and dissemination of public information.
The incumbent is responsible for coordinating, planning, and organizing the dissemination of information concerning all aspects of City's operations.
Duties & Responsibilities ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Develops, implements, and maintains effective communications strategies, plans, and programs to support departmental activities, projects, and accomplishments in support of the City's mission, vision, and values.
Develops, produces, and/or edits a variety of content from print to digital to engage and educate audiences across the City's various multimedia channels including, but not limited to, newsletters, media, websites, brochures, flyers, advertising, digital boards, and social media.
Manages and develops content for the City's social media platforms.
Monitors social media comments and interacts with stakeholders by reporting and responding to social media messages, inquiries, and comments.
Ensure that all communications are in alignment with the City's coordinated messages and brand, and are factually correct, researched, and sourced by credible, evidence-based sources.
Manages City's Home page, news, and events sections and proofreads content from various departments before publishing.
Acts as City's official spokesperson with the media, in coordination with the department director and/or city manager.
Builds and maintains proactive relations with stakeholders including media, residents, community organizations, other public agencies, and other associations the City deems important to the success of its mission.
Attends citywide events to create content and post in real-time and/or for schedule.
May be required to work non-traditional hours for presence at various special events and meetings and serves on the City's Emergency Operations Center PIO Team.
Prepares and reviews brochures, pamphlets, fliers, and other marketing pieces for various departments.
Work includes writing, editing, coordinating the development of copy and data, proofreading, coordinating images, video and design, and printing proof approvals.
Provides assistance in the development of video and digital content for the City's cable channel and coordinate messages with management staff.
Ensures consistency with the City brand and oversees the protection of the organization's cultural identity.
Plans, executes, and evaluates the City's marketing plan on an annual basis.
Qualifications What's required:
(Minimum Requirements) Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, and mass communications or related field.
Minimum five (5) years of full-time professional work experience at a professional level in Communications/Public Relations work.
Experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
English language proficiency (written and spoken) Possession of a valid driver's license with an overall good driving record is required.
If the driver's license is out of state, must be able to obtain a Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of the hire date.
What's preferred:
(Desired Requirements) Minimum three (3) years of experience in a public sector communication job.
Minimum of one (1) year experience in the following:
Crisis communication.
Digital Communication (social media and website) management experience.
Skilled with Adobe Creative Suite.
Experience with photography and video production.
